A personal written I Ching consultation

One sincere question, carefully held in writing.

Bring one meaningful question that may be difficult to see as a whole from where you stand. Jacco brings your circumstances, your six-line cast and the Wilhelm-based text into one carefully considered reflection.

The consultation may help you notice patterns, tensions and possible directions within the situation. It offers another perspective to consider alongside your own experience—not a prediction, an instruction or a decision made for you.

A private written reflection, with the interpretation first and the relevant source material alongside it.

A different way of seeing the question.

When you are closely involved in a situation, it can be difficult to hold all its parts in view at once. A consultation creates a structured pause in which your question can be considered from another angle.

The shape of the situation

It may help you notice how different elements relate—including patterns, tensions or assumptions that deserve closer attention.

What may be changing

The primary hexagram, changing lines and resulting hexagram may suggest what appears stable, what is in motion and which possibilities merit consideration.

Your own response

The interpretation and reflective questions give you perspectives to test against your experience as you decide what is responsible and appropriate for you.

You receive a written reflection that you can revisit as the situation develops.

A book of change, read through six lines.

The I Ching, often translated as the Book of Changes, is an ancient Chinese text. People have used it for centuries as a way of reflecting carefully on a situation that is in motion.

A casting forms a hexagram: six lines, built from the bottom upwards. Some lines are stable; others are changing. Together they provide the structure through which the text is read.

Understand the practiceWhat is the I Ching?

Ancient text, careful attention, practical reflection.

Jacco’s consultations are grounded primarily in Richard Wilhelm’s translation of the I Ching, rendered into English by Cary F. Baynes. The work attends to the primary hexagram, its Judgement and Image, the changing lines and the resulting hexagram as one coherent reading.

Jacco has consulted the I Ching for more than two decades. His practice values discernment, context and the reader’s freedom more than repeated reassurance.

“Dragon appearing in the field.

It furthers one to see the great man.”

— The Creative, Hexagram 1, second lineRichard Wilhelm, translated by Cary F. Baynes

I do not read “the great man” as a description of myself. What speaks to me is the image of work emerging into its chosen field: bringing a long private engagement with the I Ching into a careful, responsible form of service.

One question, carefully held.

Clarity without losing the depth.

Jacco has assisted me with I Ching readings over many years. His recent written consultation approach has made the material far more accessible, with much less of the poetic and philosophical language that I previously found difficult to understand.

The most recent consultation brought a new level of clarity and directness to my understanding of the interpretation. It addressed the larger question I had been mulling over: the coins felt uncannily on point, and the reading was insightful, clear and easy to comprehend.

The PDF was neat, easy to read and presented the direct references clearly, without the veiled language I had often found difficult in other I Ching interpretations.

9/10—leaving a little room for future improvement.

You can cast the six lines yourself.

You do not need previous experience with the I Ching. The traditional three-coin method is simple once it is demonstrated carefully: prepare one question, assign the two sides of three coins, cast six times and record each result from the bottom line upwards.

A step-by-step written guide explains what to hold in mind, how the numbers are formed, which lines are moving and how to avoid reversing the order.

The oracle does not own your life.

01

Reflection, not prediction

The reading explores patterns, tensions and possibilities. It does not guarantee an outcome.

02

Context matters

A question is not interpreted in a vacuum. The client’s circumstances and stated background help keep the reading grounded.

03

The whole reading

A consultation does not isolate a single attractive line. It attends to the complete structure and movement of the cast.

04

Your agency

The final choice remains yours. The I Ching can deepen reflection, but should not replace judgement or responsibility.

A consultation is reflective guidance.

It is not therapy, diagnosis or a guarantee of outcomes and is not medical, psychological, legal or financial advice. Where a question enters one of those areas, the consultation may help clarify values and questions, while the practical decision should be taken with an appropriately qualified professional.

Readings should not be used to create fear, dependency or urgency. A useful consultation leaves a person more grounded and more capable of choosing.

The consultation includes one question and one cast. It does not include a live call, a second question, another casting or unlimited email discussion. A new question becomes a separate consultation.

Questions about another person’s private thoughts or future actions may be reframed towards your own relationship, conduct and choices. The decision and its consequences remain yours.
